Christina seems to have come from a big family. There are a number of family trees on Ancestry for her line. Some of these are really well researched and include photos and documents on the family in general. I don't know if you have a subs to A/try or can access but this, for example, is one of the trees I can see www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/13082925/person/12250160190/facts

Heavens Monica, you're a real miner of information.  I wish I had a little more time.  Anyway just to say I'll see about Christina and her line.

John's occupation from the 1940 marriage was Foreman, Manure Works......!!
You mentioned in Christina's Ancestry listing has photos, which I'll see about accessing as I used to have a sub on Ancestry, but this current line is a new idea of mine.  You couldn't let me know if the lady George Cruickshank married in 1940, Mary Ann Cruickshank nee McDonald, daughter of John McDonald (Stone Mason) and Margaret McDonald nee Grant, has a photo of her could you??
Golly - you're good at this.  When I have a little time I'll have a look at the other things you've found out.
Many thanks
Jon

Can't see any reference to a photo for Mary Ann unfortunately so far.

There is a bit on her parents around such a family tree here www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/37728761/person/20379422702/facts A quick access tree here www.ancestry.co.uk/genealogy/records/maggie-jane-grant-24-14vbczf?geo_a=r&geo_s=au&geo_t=uk&geo_v=2.0.0&o_iid=41020&o_lid=41020&o_sch=Web+Property

Maggie Jane Grant and John McDonald married in 1901 in Kirkmichael, Banff. Possible birth entry for Mary Ann McDonald in 1903 in Kirkmichael, Banff.

Thanks for the links - re-registered on Ancestry and have printed off to have a look later.
To confirm Mary Ann was born in Kirkmichael on 1st July 1903. She appears in the 1911 census, having moved with the rest of the family to Abernethy.
The information on George's possible birth date and his parents' marriage are quite probable too.
As George was a Private in the Seaforth Highlanders at the age of 33 (and engaged in 1940 in War Service) it may be that there are Records held somewhere on the Highlanders that may have further information but could be a dead end?

You are interested in confirming George's death. Could he have died in WW2 action (although not seeing anything to support that on www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/ ? What are the last details you have for him?

To confirm Mary Ann was born in Kirkmichael on 1st July 1903. She appears in the 1911 census, having moved with the rest of the family to Abernethy.
There are four parishes called Kirkmichael and two Abernethys, so you need to be sure to note which county as well as which parish you are in :)
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi MonicaL

On George; the last I have is his marriage on 21 December 1940 to Mary Ann McDonald. He was 33 and Mary Ann was 37.
Their son John - in fact Mary's son (George was a stepfather) John (McDonald) was born as far as I can make out on 14 September 1922.
Mary Ann died: 9 April 1982, Culduthel Hospital Inverness, aged 78.
George was born in 1907 but I can't find any death...
