From St Georges Workhouse to Mitcham School
« on: Tuesday 12 October 21 06:49 BST (UK) »
A family of orphans were admitted to St Georges Workhouse, Mint St on 1 july 1857 after their mother Caroline died in March of the same year.  Their father James died in 1854.  They were Sophia (b 1845) James Daniel (b 1849) and Alice Maria (b 1851)- known as Maria JARVIS.  James was discharged 3rd July to attend the Mitcham School. Sophia and Maria discharged 6th July also to attend the Mitcham School.  How do I obtain any records for the Mitcham School.  If there are records is it possible someone may be able to look please.
A James Jarvis seems to appear in the the same workhouse several times up until 1862.  How do I know for sure that this is my James Jarvis?
I would appreciate any help offered.

Background info on the school:

There are some surviving registers at LMA but I can't see anything for July 1857 at first pass. This one is slightly later:

There is a run of admission/discharge registers for Mitcham, 1855-1870, with several gaps, at LMA (SOBG/036/001-007).

Those that survive are on FamilySearch, starting here ...
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHV-P3NY-M82G?i=547&cat=1327715

There’s a gap between 1856 and December 1857, so you won’t find the children’s admission in July 1857, but if they were at the school long enough you may find other evidence of them.

Thank you ShaunJ and Bookbox a great help.  I do know what happened to Sophia and Maria.  In fact I am in the process of getting Maria and her husbands monument repaired after the Christchurch earthquakes damaged it.   Maria is my gr grandmother.
I have no confirmed records of James Jarvis after 1862 although there are many James Jarvis's in workhouses in the area I can't guarantee they are the same person.
