Love the theory of the name's origin, Hillhurst. Eletch's family lived near and worked on the waterways in London and dealings with the East India Company and the East India Docks were likely. I guess they heard a pretty name or met somone called it and gave it to their baby.  ;D

Just noting that there was an Elatch Ball(s) who married a John Faint in London in 1828, and an Elatch Ball who married a Joseph Buckingham in Westminster in 1843. Does your Burton family have a Ball connection?

I note that her father seems to have remarried after her mother's death and that in the 1881 census Benjamin's surname appears to have been transcribed as Barton. So perhaps worth searching for Bartons as well as Burtons?

I have tried to follow her older brothers, James and Joseph in the censuses. There is a marriage of James to Matilda Parker in 1853. The witnesses were John Parker and to my eyes it looks like Eley Burton. Might that be her?

I also note that James and Matilda's youngest daughter in the 1871 census is called Ela. She was baptised Feb 3 1870 as Ela.

I've been wondering if this might possibly be her in 1901? The name is difficult to read - others might read it differently to me  :-\

That 1901 looks awfully good to me,Jen!

Also-the other servant-Elizabeth M Brown just might now be the wife of Walter BENNETT on the 1911 census where Elatch is described as "aunt".
