Finding an Adoption record after 1931

HI all,
A friend who's mother was born 1933/34 in Ballymoney has always said she was adopted.
Reading on the nidirect web site under adoptions you must provide the name of the court where the order was made.
Can anyone tell me how we find that bit of info.?

I would imagine that it is either going to be Ballymoney itself or Coleraine which appears to be the nearest big town to the north.

Is there nothing on the website that indicates what to do if you don't know where the order was made?

Is your friend's mother still alive?

Does she have her birth certificate?

Hi there
Yes she is still alive and lives here in NZ.
When she went to apply for her pension here she couldn't provide a birth certificate.
I think she provided a school entry from Ireland.
I will check with my friend just what it was she used.
Unfortunately his mother has Alzheimer's and is unable to provide any information.

Presumably when she applied for her pension it was before internet.

Why not try applying for a birth certificate using the name she was known as?

https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/node/3785

That will tell you if  she was registered as that name.

Whilst she is alive try and get a DNA test, then that might show up close relatives.

Oh yes she applied way before the internet.
I think my friend has thought about trying DNA. There is bound to be specials coming up could be worth him trying.
