William Beasley and Jane Panton baptisms c. 1775. Hampton Gay, Oxon.

Hi. I am trying to confirm whether a particular person is my GGGGGF William Beasley.

I have a marriage for William to a Jane Panton in Acton, Middlesex in 1795 and their Parish is written as "Hampton Gay, Oxfordshire". His name is also transcribed Boosley but looking at the original it is Beesley.

I cannot find any info. on either of them through the usual online sites so wonder if anybody has access to PRs for the area to try to establish parents etc. I guess DOB would be around 1775.

Any input greatly appreciated.

You say you've tried the usual sites but have you looked on Ancestry?

They have scans of the original Hampton Gay parish registers available to view. Have you tried looking through them? I had a quick flick through but it doesn't look like the register was very well kept; it is strangely organised and I think there might be a few missing pages.

Ah thankyou Queenie.
When I was looking I was using the free library access during lockdown (which is now withdrawn) but I only tried a search. I didn't realise the scans were available to trawl through. I don't have an Ancestry sub. at the moment so will have to get down the library in person and see if I can find them.

I had a look through the Hampton Gay parish register for you (at least the one that is available online) and, unfortunately, I couldn't see any Beasleys (of any spelling) or Pantons.

It is even more difficult because William and Jane signed with their mark, which means that the spelling was based more on what the parish clerk heard and sometimes the result is so laughable, you wonder whether they had impacted wax!  Not that spelling was consistent in those days, anyway.

Thankyou Queenie that is so kind of you to spend the time. Yes I have seen so many different variations of Beasley it makes me wonder how the name survived ....... or did it 
I'm not sure where to look next but I'll keep trying. May have to delve deeper into the Acton records because what led me back to this was my GGGF, Elijah Beasley, who was born Brentford (according to census records), his father was William (not born in Middx) and I have two brothers of Elijah (Benjamin and Richard) also born Brentford and cannot find birth/baptism records for any of them.
