Colin - does the 1901 entry you found show birthplace England?  Also - in 1901 he would only be 30 if b 1871.  Do you mean 1911 census?

Sorry it was the 1911.
GRO shows registration as West Ham, as per opening post.

I guess these are the most likely birth registrations for the children. Sadly there are no mothers maiden names on SP records until you get the certificate.

CAMERON   MARY   1907   Govan

CAMERON   CATHERINE   1910   Govan

On the 1871 West Ham census "Maria" is Marian, she died in 1886 in Broomhill Home, Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire.
In 1881 mother Anne Cameron (nee Ewing) is back in Glasgow with the Graham family (this is her stepfather & mother), no sign of Marion or James. In 1891 mother Anne Cameron has remarried & is living with her new husband Henry Hope in Glasgow (no idea what happened to first husband Hugh Cameron).
James is also living with them there (Mechanical Engineer) described as a Boarder. I believe James may have been abroad in 1901 with the army.
I did buy Catherine's cert (Govan, 1910) from Scotland's People, turns out to be incorrect (this one's father was James, a shipwright & mother Sarah) so I haven't tried the entry for Mary.
