Why when I google WW2 records, it comes up on Ancestry which I have but there's nothing there and there doesn't seem anything anywhere. I am looking for a superstar of Army records.  My dad was 29 when WW2 broke out and was unmarried so I would presume he would have gone in quite early. I only know he was in Egypt and served in the RASC. I have never seen any medals and when I looked on UK forces records, paying for a month just to see records all there was was Private James William Grange.  I know from photographs in Egypt and his wedding that he had two stripes being a corporal.  I did think he may have borrowed a uniform to get married in because they did that sometimes but the fact that one photo was in Egypt I believe it was true. I have heard something about £30 paid to the MOD for relevant information but I have virtually nothing to go on and no-one to ask. Any advice would be gratefully received.

When applying to the MOD, you need to supply a copy of a Death Certificate, and his date of birth.
Service number is helpful, but not a necessity.

If the date of birth of the individual is more than 116 years ago, the requirement to provide a death certificate will be waived.
