Ancestry DNA help

Hi
      I have a new 2-3 cousin come up on ancestry we share 2% DNA 138cm across 6 segments we can't find a link to how we are related and the person was adopted the shared matches don't show up anything can anyone suggest what we can do next i have given a list of my grandparents and great grandparents to them
Any help would be appreciated

Does the person know who their birth parents are?

No they don't that's the hard part

If they are old enough, they can apply for their adoption file.

Have you looked at location matches among your shared matches and ethnicity sometimes helps if on ancestry .
Do they have birth surname ? At least that could identify one side of their family

You say the shared matches don't show up anything. Are you certain? Have you clicked on each shared match then viewed the shared matches of that shared match? Sometimes doing the latter can be helpful.

As the person's match with you is greater than 90cm and less than 400cm, both of you could consider colour clustering all your respective matches (ie not just your shared matches), in that range and then comparing the resulting charts, to see if they yield any further clues.
