Go to www.freebmd.org.uk & look up the birth of Eliza which was in 1857

Then go to https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp and using the reference etc from freebmd you will find her mothers maiden name - Wheeler

Use freebmd to find an Eldridge/Wheeler marriage

Use the 1861 census to find her with family - www.familysearch.org

Look for Thomas & Eliza on the 1881 census to establish his birthplace

A family tree on Ancestry lists these mother's names, both born on the Isle of Wight, Hampshire.

Thomas Rayner = Jane R Windover (1812 IoW - 1886 IoW)
Eliza F Eldridge = Eliza Wheeler (1833 IoW - ??)

Thomas Rayner bp.27/6/1847 Ryde, Hampshire, son of Wiiliam and Jane.  William Rayner married Jane Windover 6/9/1838 Newchurch, Hampshire.

Eliza Fanny Eldridge bp.2/8/1857 Ryde, Hampshire, dau. of William and Eliza.   William Eldridge married Eliza Wheeler 11/5/1854 Newchurch, Hampshire.

The Isle of Wight FHS has produced BMD indexes and the births database has always recorded the mother's maiden name.  If you are sure that the person was born on the Isle of Wight (from census data perhaps), then it is possibly quicker to search there first.
