MyHeritage Default tree
« on: Friday 17 September 21 09:45 BST (UK) »
I recently uploaded my Ancestry DNA results to MyHeritage paying the one-off fee. Got all the discoveries and matches but decided to take up the half-price offer of subscription.

At this point I had my DNA/GEDCOM tree and a new tree with one person (me) which seems to the the place other users get steered to (they see my DNA match to a tree of one person not my GEDCOM tree of 7,000)

Fatal error this morning - I updated my GEDCOM tree by replacing it with an updatedcopy of my Ancestry tree. I now have a DNA linked tree of one and a GEDCOM tree that has been consistency checked by MyHeritage but which will not generate Smart matches or discoveries.

How do you link these tree as you cannot import a GEDCOM into you one person tree?

Hi

I'm not quite sure what the problem is as I have two trees and both generate smart matches.

In the top left, you should see a tab with the name of your currently viewed tree. Click on that, which then becomes the 'active' tree. It will show smart matches for that.

The top left tab always reads ****WebSite which is the account generated when I subscribed and contains one person. I cannot pop the tab down or change trees there. If I go to the Family Tree > My Family Tree menu I can choose which tree to look at but the top left of the screen never changes.

Just as an aside when I click on the Smart Matches button I get a page saying you have no matches > Go to Your Tree - clicking that always goes back to the one person tree created when I subscribed not the GEDCOM tree I uploaded to support my DNA test results.

It looks like MyHeritage is not linking my recently uploaded GEDCOM to anything and thinks I have a one person tree attached to my DNA that I need to expand.

I've looked at the MyHeritage help pages but cannot find anything about linking a GEDCOM to a default tree.

A while ago, I deleted one of my trees and then uploaded a new gedcom. That seemed to work as it replace the old tree. I did delete the old tree before I uploaded though.

Just been investigating some more;

Try clicking on your name.
Then go down to My Sites. This should open a site page with your site name.

Bottom Left there is a 'create another site'  Click on that and create a site for your new tree.

Had a go as you suggest - now the top left tab comes alive with the alternative website and I can imported my GEDCOM to start a tree on the new site. I'll report how I get on.

I've let things lie fallow for a couple of days - though I have DNA matches to my new GEDCOM, there are no Smart Matches, Record or Person Discoveries of any kind - clicking on the discovery icon get the "We haven't found any Discoveries for you yet." message.

Seems like some kind of 'punishment' for having changed my mind!

That seems very odd, David. I think there must be an error somewhere. It might be worth contacting them about it.
