heywood thank you for your help, the deaths look like the people in question, no luck finding Dominic in the census

Not sure what you mean. Dominic (spelling variants) is in both those censuses I gave you with the family.

May have joined at outbreak of Boer War.
 A GGF of mine, son of Irish parents in England was missing from 1901 England census and from a studio portrait of GGM & my little grandma. Took me a while to realise why he was absent from both. I found his military records. He'd been a member of the county militia (or its' then equivalent) and was called up at outbreak of Boer War and posted to Gibraltar, taking over garrison duties from the regular army unit which was sent to S. Africa. He served 14 months, then discharged as unfit for further service.

Thank you all for your help. We were given to understand that the family was from county Wexford which might not have been correct after all

It seems to be Wexford from Waterford  :)

Did you see Dominic in those censuses? All seems to fit.
