Records for Letterkenny Asylum
« on: Monday 30 August 21 16:47 BST (UK) »
Hi, my fathers great uncle Bartholemew Hart was born on 18th August 1892 at Cooladonnel, County Leitrim. He was at home in the 1901 and 1911 census and the next I  have is his death in the Letterkenny Asylum on 21 march 1942 of TB. He worked in the shop there but he was an inmate I think. I know of neighbours of theirs that if their child was deaf or had something 'wrong' with them I never saw them  when I visited or they were in asylums part of the year and brought home to help with the hay etc in summer. I'm an OAP now and I always wondered about Bartly. Is there any way to find out how and when he went into the asylum. Some of his brothers and most of their families all worked in Sligo Asylum either farming or as attendants so he might not have been an inmate. Any idea if you can access any records? Thanks  Patsy
