Cavantownlands.com have just uploaded a major new dataset on
https://cavantownlands.com/census-of-1821/This contains 80,000 complete individual records for 17 of the 36 parishes of County Cavan which have survived. We have re-indexed the listings from the National Archives website which we found to contain many transcription as well as townland indexation errors. We believe we have improved the townland search facility from about 25% to nearly 95% by updating the old and misspelt townland names to their correct current classification (Logainm).
You can now search the census records by filtering parish, townland, surname, first name, occupation etc. The search engine supports predictive text which makes searching easier. (Note we have not attempted to update the name transcriptions which, unfortunately, are not very reliable in many instances. We recommend that any records encountered be verified by cross checking with the original photographed records which can be viewed on the NAI site.)
This is one of the very few counties in Ireland for which census records have survived from this era and represent a major historical resource for any Cavan genealogical or historical research.
