I would like to expand my family search of my G-grandparents families, all from Craanford (Monbay) Gorey Wexford.
Michael Finn b ~1800 married to Bridget Doyle (who I believe was from Camolin) 1804-1884
Jeremiah (Darby) Doran 1813-1882 m Susanna (Susan) Ennis, b? d 1891
They all lived in Mombay. The Doran farm remains, the Finn family home is no longer there.
Their headstones are not at ST Patrick's church, I know there are many smaller cemetaries in the area.
Thank You
Shelly
Hello Shelly,
This is your (distant) cousin Wexflyer again. We corresponded on Ancestry and via email back in May this year. As you may recall, we have a DNA match, through your great-grandmother Bridget Doyle.
After the progress we made in May on figuring out how we are related, it is somewhat disheartening to see you repeat several earlier pieces of information that we now know to be incorrect.
Bridget Doyle was from Clonee, in the parish of Ferns, not Camolin. Her marriage to Michael Finn on 4th July 1822 is recorded in the Ferns parish register, where her address is clearly given as Clonee.
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634064#page/6/mode/1upClonee is also where my Doyle ancestors hail from.
Bridget died in 1874, not 1884, when her age was given as 79. Her death registration can be seen at
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1875/020636/7239986.pdfI also previously provided this death registration to you. Her death was registered by Michael Finn, presumably the son whose marriage was mentioned earlier in this thread.
As for parish registers being too late, as asserted by Heywood, that is not quite so. Craanford was previously part of a larger original parish, and earlier records exist for that parish - in this case Ballyoughter.
The Ballyoughter parish registers contain a baptism record for a daughter of Michael Finn and Bridget Doyle, namely Anne Finn on 28/1/1828, in Munbay.
The Ballyoughter registers contain 7 Finn and Doran baptisms in Munbay (with that spelling) between 1816 and 1828, and a further 4 Doran baptisms in 1817 and 1818, in Monbay (with that spelling).
Finally, with regard to memorial inscriptions, these are freely available online, provided by the North Wexford Historical Society, covering all periods down to the present day
https://northwexfordhistoricalsociety.com/headstone-recordings/Using this resource, you can indeed see that many Finns and Dorans of Monbay are buried in Craanford. e.g. there is a Finn of Monbay burial as recently as 1987. Of most interest, though, is the fact that before Craanford, the Finns of Monbay appear to have been buried in Rossminogue, with interments back to the 1750s. A very strange feature of this site is that only the first deceased family member mentioned on a gravestone seems to be indexed. If you "click" on the indexed names you will get the full inscription and a photograph. Many/most of the inscriptions have additional names that do not appear in the index.
