My Great G/Grandma born in Bethnal Green circa 1856
« on: Wednesday 14 July 21 18:26 BST (UK) »
Greetings Nice People,
I am trying to find out about my Great Grandmother who was born in late 1856 in Bethnal
Green . Her name was Ann Hollis , known as Annie. She was born to William and Elizabeth Hollis.
 ( i don't the exact date or place) .
She married my Great Grandfather, Charles Rogers in Dalston on the 17 May 1875. They had six
children most of whom I have knowledge of except George, born in 1880 in Homerton.
Sadly, Charles died in 1888 in 30 Merton Road, Homerton leaving Annie with 5 kids (1 had died )
She married again in 1895 a man by the name of John Richard Farmer with whom she had at least
  2 more kids.
The 1901 census (RG 13/286 ) , this is the last entry I have for George, living at 8 Newling Str.
Bethnal Green.  We think that John and Rose sadly died in 1902 of Diptheria, but I can't find
what happened after that to either Annie, John Farmer or George Rogers. they may have had
another daughter named Elizabeth Farmer but I'm not sure.
I'm hoping some fresh sets of eyes may help
Thank you in advance for any guidance and help you can give me
Please take care and look after yourselves - Kind Regards  - Keith Davies

Try searching GRO online for Farmer births with mmn Hollis.  You can search plus/minus 2yrs so start with 1897 which will give you 1895-1899 and work forwards from that.

If she was born 1856 - she would pretty much be past child bearing age by 1906

1911? Given the Rogers daughter who matches previous records

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWGB-4QY

"Ellen" Phillips is Elizabeth Rogers, who married Edward George Phillips in 1905. father Charles (dec) a milkman

Witness  Richard Thomas Rogers

seeing the image elsewhere shows it's just filled in as Mrs Farmer. Someone has added Jane later

George married Lottie Sherriff on 20 May 1906  at St Matthew, Bethnal Green. Same address as Mrs Farmer in 1911 - father Charles, milkman (deceased). occupation mail driver

Here they are in 1911 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWP8-LYP
(Ancestry have transcribed his pob as Merton)

Annie's baptism for you.

St Matthias Bethnal Green baptism
1856 Nov 16, Ann d/o William & Elizabeth HOLLIS, 8 Nelson?? St, Dealer, born 1 Oct 1856

She was baptised again at the same church on 4 Oct 1863, abode Vincent St.

In 1861 census the family is at Vincent St, but surname is spelt as HOLLACE, indexed as HALLACE.

William HOLLIS married Elizabeth BRANNAN at same church on 18 Aug 1851.

Greetings Nice People,
The information given by Mabel Bagshawe has backed up what I have just been
told by my new Aussie cousin (DNA Test).
Eyesee (I love The Name!) added useful things I didn't know
and, CaroleW's input has shown me a useful way to use GRO
So, Thank you all very much for your help

Please take care  - have fun  - kind regards  - Keith
