Location of laundry in 1920s (?) London
« on: Tuesday 06 July 21 15:27 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I have a copy of a photo of my 2xgreat grandmother and her colleagues standing outside the laundry where they worked, going by their hairstyles it looks like it was taken in the late 1910s or 1920s but possibly early 1930s. The name of the laundry is 'Mrs Pain - Laundry Specialists' and the photo shows the ladies standing outside what looks like a shop type laundry rather than an industrial laundry, with a number '9' above the doorway.

My 2x great grandmother lived in Fulham but I'd like to find the location of the laundry, I'm assuming it's in Fulham or a surrounding area. Can anyone help me to locate 'Mrs Pain - Laundry Specialists'?

Something I love from the photo is that there's a sign in the window saying 'party frocks are washed in 12 hours'.

Many thanks.

As is always the way, my next search finds it! If anyone is interested i searched the newspaper archive and found an advert for the laundry at 9 Tryon Street, Chelsea. Part of the building is still there but it's much changed.
