1841 census - Hope's of Berwick or Glendale
« on: Tuesday 30 August 05 14:01 BST (UK) »
I have a Barbara Hope born 1830 in Berwick upon Tweed.

Her parents were John and Margaret HOPE nee Slight/Sleight who lived at Crawford's Alley, Berwick in 1830.  He was a pitman.

There's another entry for a son Thomas HOPE son of John and Margaret Hope in May 1831 (not sure if same family).  John was listed as a blacksmith of Nesbits Lane, Berwick.

The only death I can find for Margaret HOPE in either Berwick/Glendale (now found Glendale is same area) was in June 1847.  Two John Hopes died in Sept 1841 and June 1842 in Glendale so am sending off for these certificates.

Barbara married in 1847 at the Lamberton Toll

Would be very grateful for a 1841 census lookup for John, Margaret, Barbara and possibly Thomas HOPE around Berwick/Glendale area.

I don't know if there's a connection - cousin perhaps but need to find more details of John and Margaret Hope.

I've confirmed Barbara's birth  at Holy Trinity Church, Berwick upon Tweed.  Also her parentage via her 2nd marriage in Edinburgh in 1861.

I sent off for the OPR marriages for Berwick but the LDS said they were restricted and couldn't send them to the local FHC for viewing.  So am stuck unless I can find them on the 1841 census.
