Other thoughts Re: Augusta Emily Blanche (Brewer) Vaughan born in 1868 to Mary Isabel Winnett.
Do we assume then that Mary’s husband Robert was dead at this point?
In 1863 there is a death recorded in Paterson NSW of a Robert Vaughan (Parents James and Eliza)
The only son of Robert Vaughan and Jane Purcell was named Robert JAMES Hugh Vaughan b. 1876
Is the name James significant?

In 1863 there is a death recorded in Paterson NSW of a Robert Vaughan (Parents James and Eliza)

That was the death of a child.

VAUGHAN, ROBERT

I really want it to be this guy because he was so interesting.

The barque Novelty sailed from Auckland on the evening of the 8th instant, heavy head winds having prevailed. For the last 5 days she has been within 300 miles of these Heads. A steerage passenger, named Robert Vaughan, died on the 12th instant in an epileptic fit, being at the same time suffering from delerium tremens.

VAUGHAN - At sea, on board the barque Novelty, on the 12th July, Robert Vaughan, aged 31 years, for many years connected with the Victoria and Prince of Wales Theatres, of this city, leaving a wife and child to mourn their loss.

In our advertising columns will be found notified a concert to take place at the Masonic Hall on Wednesday next, on behalf of the widow of Mr Robert Vaughan who died on his return passage to Sydney from New Zealand.  Mr Vaughan was well known in this city both as an excellent musician, and a first rate cricketer, and we hope, and indeed have no doubt, that his fellow countrymen will muster strongly on the occasion, both out of respect to the dead, and in sympathy for his bereaved wife.

Concert - A complimentary concert was given on Wednesday evening, at the Masonic Hall, for the benefit of the widow and orphan of the late Robert Vaughan, known to many in this city as a piccolo player in the orchestra of one ef the theatres, but perhaps better known as an old cricketer. The services of some of the most talented musical amateurs in Sydney were obtained in furtherance of the benevolent object of the concert.

This Robert VAUGHAN was a professional flautist and also played in the NSW first eleven.

Debra, I also came across the musician Robert Vaughan in the papers, but had not looked in any further detail yet, as you have. I agree he is interesting, especially as his age is a better fit, than the convict Robert Vaughan.
I hope some marriage documents will give us the answers. ;)

Confirming info:

https://stors.tas.gov.au/NI/619564
Michael VAUGHAN departure 20 May 1833 from Hobart per Eliza to Sydney. CUS33/1/2 p33

https://stors.tas.gov.au/NI/619565
Mrs VAUGHAN, wife of Michael departed 20 May from Hobart per Eliza to Sydney. CUS33/1/2 p33

https://stors.tas.gov.au/NI/619566
Child of Michael and Wife departure 20 May 1833 from Hobart per Eliza to Sydney. CUS33/1/2 p33

ADD
I wonder if the Tas Names Index entry 'Eliza' is referring to the ship of arrival rather than the ship they departed on??

Hi JM.
As far as I could work out, they came from Liverpool to Hobart on 'Eliza", and then from Hobart to Sydney on "Caroline". ... but I may have misunderstood.

Added- Or “Caroline” could be a transcription error from Ancestry?

Yes,  I think that is so.  I think the index headings are perhaps a tad too abbreviated at times.
