Can't find birth record in GRO index.

I know very little about my 2x great grandfather John Thomas Cordon so I was hoping to order a PDF of what I believe is his birth certificate but the reference I found on FreeBMD is not coming up on the GRO index.

I think he was born in the first quarter of 1847 at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
Vol. 15 Page 525.

I've looked at the original index on Ancestry and FreeBMD and the numbers look right but could they have been transcribed wrongly from the original birth certificate? Or could it be the that the certificate doesn't exist for some reason?
 
Should I just try and order with the reference number I have, (there's a small charge if they can't find it), or should I message them first perhaps?
I'm really hoping I can find his birth certificate because I have no idea who his parents were and I'm completely stumped at the moment!

John Cordon was a man born in 1847 in Mansfield Nottinghamshire Mansfield . During the 1851 UK Census he was 4 years old and lived in Nottinghamshire. He appears as the grand son of he house in the 1851 UK Census.
