Parents of Jenifer Musgrove; Bodmin (Completed)
« on: Saturday 12 June 21 13:46 BST (UK) »
Greetings RootsChatters,

What I know:
Jenifer (Jenefer/Janifer/Jenny) Musgrove (Misgrove/Misgreave) married William Growden in Lanivet, Cornwall, 9 May 1819.
They had son Thomas, born Bodmin, 1820; son Henry, born Bodmin, 1821; daughter Elizabeth Ann, born Bodmin, 1825.  They then had 2 more daughters in London before immigrating on the Osprey to Australia is 1849.

What I don’t know:
For years now I have had Jenifer’s parents recorded as Richard Musgrove and Catharine Bennet (and I don’t even remember why), however I just found William Growden and Jenifer Musgrove’s daughter Emily’s baptism certificate from St Pancras, Middlesex (Aug 1836) and it has her parents as William Growden and Janifer his wife, who was the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Musgrove.
Is there any records for a Thomas Musgrove and Margaret (___) marrying or a baptism certificate for Jenifer? Jenifer would have been born about 1795 based on her migration age.
The other oddity is that William and Jenifer’s other daughter born in London is Jane Arthur. It seems that maternal surnames feature occasionally as middle names in the next generation, so is there some link with a surname of Arthur?

Any help greatly appreciated.

There's a marriage in Bodmin on 25th May 1794:
Thomas Musgrove and Margaret Hoar.

and a Jenney Musgrove baptised in Bodmin on 15th July 1795 daughter of Thomas and Margaret.

possible link to the Arthur surname. From the Opc database,
https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/person-search/

there's a probable burial at Bodmin for Thomas Musgrove 15 July 1795, same day as Jenny's baptism.

Then a marriage in Bodmin 25 Nov 1798 for John Arthur & Margaret Musgrove, witnesses George Fraud & John Salter. One of the witnesses to the 1794 marriage was Mary Salter.

Thank you!
I believe all of the above is correct.
I now see that there were 2 Jenifer Musgrove’s baptised within about a year of each other, which is how I got my wires crossed. Thankfully Emily’s baptism certificate could help differentiate them.
That OPC resource is fabulous and has given me more to go on.
Much appreciated.
