Lady Elizabeth Warren
« on: Monday 07 June 21 12:21 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Under the Holborn, British Lying-In Hospital births for one of my ancestors in 1761 Elizabeth Mackavoy, it states that she was a gentleman's servant. It says that the recommendors name  was  Lady Elizabeth Warren so presumably this is who she worked for. I can find nothing at all about Lady Elizabeth Warren. Would anyone know who she was or where she lived?  Elizabeth & her husband James lived in Ratcliffe, London.
Many thanks from Quester

The Particulars of Patients register (RG 8/55) shows that Elizabeth was the wife of James Macavoy. It is he who was the Gentleman’s Servant (the Occupation column refers to the husband). The record gives the parish of residence as St George Hanover Square.

I don’t think you can assume that Lady Elizabeth Warren was the employer, or indeed anything to do with the Mackavoys personally. ‘Recommenders’ were not necessarily connected directly with the patients. They were charitable donors to the hospital’s funds. Lady Elizabeth may have been the ‘friend of a friend of a friend’ who enabled the Mackavoys to get a place there.
