George Thomas D'arcy Found Dead - Open Verdict

The death certificate of George Thomas D'arcy (born Birmingham, 16th August 1865) shows that he was found deceased beside the canal near Monument Road, Birmingham on 8th July 1924.

The inquest held on 9th July 1924 found that D'arcy died from drowning and recorded an open verdict as to how he met his death.

Is it possible to gain access to any of the statements/records that were produced at the inquest?

I have tried to obtain further information from newspapers of that date but without success.

A family rumour exists that he was murdered and robbed - but that it just family rumour  ???

Two possibilities; reports in newspapers or Birmingham Archives might hold the Coroner's file.

I suggest an email with the basic details from the death certificate. Archives are starting to open their doors again but might have a backlog of enquiries to deal with!

Their details will be on the internet.

After your advice, I have found the following:
The files are original archival material, the inquests can only be seen by making an appointment to view them in the Wolfson Centre for Archival Research.

I will contact them tomorrow.

I have now been able to view all the original documents including the statements surrounding George Thomas D'arcys death.

The staff at the Birmingham Library were extremely helpful and the information gained was of great value to all the family.

Hi, I am unsure if you have this information?
George Thomas Darcy buried July 1924 in Warstone Lane Cemetery section B, plot 1457 .
This is a public / common grave with several unrelated interments. ( not to be confused with paupers grave)
Warstone Lane Cemetery is in Hockley, Birmingham.
