Finding Harry
« on: Thursday 29 April 21 19:34 BST (UK) »
 Hi all,
Can anyone find a birth cert for a Harry Thompson. His Father may be Harry or Herbert.  His date of birth as he gave it is August 27th 1886 and his birth place England. In 1911 he seems to have been living in Swillington and had a brother William.

He left England in 1914.
Any help would be great thanks;

Louisa

Nobody can find a birth cert for you - only a birth registration.  Birthplace is given as Leeds in 1911 but his age does not support an 1886 birth.

Are you sure you have the right 1911 entry?  How did you determine he was from Yorkshire if he only gives his birthplace as England?

Have you looked for him on earlier censuses (ie) 1891 & 1901?

The 1914 emigration to Australia shows him as 27 occ decorator - I think you have the wrong 1911 entry

If he married outside of England is a father named on his marriage cert?

Place of birth is Leeds. As his employer has his date age as 20, rather than the 24 the dob quoted in the first post might suggest, I think she may be rather imprecise with her details

I don’t think this is him. There is a published tree which tracks him through to 1939 and further.

Interesting there should be an NZ Army record for a Harry THOMPSON with the same birth date

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01qkg/

Having trouble finding it on archway. Will alter link when I can find that (said with hope!)

Added...that link above takes you to the middle of his record.  Paging left rather than right gives best info,   It’s 1917 and has been in NZ 4 yrs

Added further. father is Herbert

On the NZ Army record posted for Harry Thompson above mentions next of kin
friend Mr  H Shopbolt Pukekohe Auckland

I wonder if there’s any connection to this person

Harry is a mystery. He went to New Zealand in 1914 . In his personal papers he has postcards addressed to himself in Swillington the post stamp says 1911. He called his only son after his father Herbert but on his own marriage  cert it says his father is Harry

Is the address on the post cards the same as the 1911 census?

Or rather...what is the address on the post cards?
Are they from his brother William?
Do they mention any other names?

You know. “Say hello to Florrie”

What other information is on the marriage certificate? And the son’s birth cert?
