Hi,

Thankyou for the message and for the other poster who pointed out why my inbox is showing as both full and will not allow me to reply to the 1 message in it.

I'm a newbie here which is all part of the needle in a haystack search situation that I find myself in.  A search using particulars brought up the original post. I have some details though no mother's surname (have first) and no half sibling name (other than Father's surname - assuming this was used).  Approx years of birth tally up as does potential situation/locations.

Use Scotlands People it is a free site to research but if you want a particular document you need to pay for it . I have found it very useful as they had some detailed documents that include parents names occupations and even their birth places which made it very useful to confirm information and not just guess between 2 John Smith's.

Excellent advice, except that the document the OP is looking for is not available online because it is after the cut-off period for online viewing

- 100 years for births
- 75 years for marriages
- 50 years for births
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
