Scottish DNA

Having believed for many years my Fathers's family were 100% Irish, we DNA tested and found we carry a high percentage of Scottish DNA, and have since found that there were quite a few Poland/Polin's who commuted between the two countries if anyone knows of this family name common in Scotland I would love to know where so I can begin to research for missing ancestors, thank you.

From Scotlands People, there are Polin's in Lanarkshire (Old Monklands) & Ayrshire in the 1800's

The name, Polin,  is very common in N.I. around Newry, Lurgan & Kilkeel

If you used Ancestry for DNA testing, their most recent update seems to be heavy on Scottish results.  My husband & I both have no Scottish ancestors by the paper trail, and we both went from having little/no Scottish to having over 20% each.  I have heard of unexpected Scottish increases from other people.

It also looks to be a name which probably has many variants which are spread all over Scotland

Just some to consider...

Palen, Palin, Polan, Polland, Pollands, Pollin

I've found with my Scottish/Irish ancestors, accents can change a name completely e.g. Mellon-Mallin

Annie
South Uist, Inverness-shire, Scotland:- Bowie, Campbell, Cumming, Currie

Ireland:- Cullen, Flannigan (Derry), Donahoe/Donaghue (variants) (Cork), McCrate (Tipperary), Mellon, Tol(l)and (Donegal & Tyrone)

Newcastle-on-Tyne/Durham (Northumberland):- Harrison, Jude, Kemp, Lunn, Mellon, Robson, Stirling

Kettering, Northampton:- MacKinnon

Canada:- Callaghan, Cumming, MacPhee
