Maybe he added the Joseph later and he was baptised just with the name William, because this does happen because my grandfather was baptised just William  Flynn and he later added the name Joseph, so maybe  i will see if i can find a death in that area for just a William Costello not William Joseph.
thanks

I have looked on the record of the couple going to America suggested by aghdowey.
And this is the correct couple because it gives her fathers address as 88 Masters st Burnley and this was the family home of Ellen ann parents.
So i think they must have died in America and that is why i have been unable to find deaths for them

If I read the record correctly, they were going for six months, although they could have stayed, and there was a woman and daughter, Mills,  with them who were going for three months - to the same address but they are from Derbyshire.
I think William had been there the year before also.

I have found him in American census in 1930 it states he was widower, so Ellen must have died between 1922 and 1930.
So they must have stayed in America and not as stated in previous post only went for 6 months

He is in New York but he is just under the name Joseph but what makes me feel this is him is that on the immigration paper is occupation is motor driver, on the 1930 census is occupation is chauffeur which is the same.
I have not put this information in my tree yet in case someone came back to say i was wrong.
