The children are very young to be going to a cinema hall alone
Aged 3-8
In that era, and even into the 1940s (from my own experience) it was not uncommon for small children to do things which would not be considered now.
Some what later, during the General sgtrike of 1926, a three year old boy took messages from the Union in Edlington Doncaster to Brodsworth, also Doncaster, a distance of some 6 miles. He did this because the police would not stop and detain him thinking he was too you to be involved. I was told this by the person concerned, Ken Sampey who became National President of the Pit Deputies Union (NACODS) during the 1970s. Also, it was quite common around 1950 or later for children to travel alone by rail, the guard was told of their presence and given the name of the person who would meet them and where. SAdly perhaos, it is considered no longer safe to do such things.
