So Coaley is also Cowley (I’ll remember that for the future) :)

Do you know if Gunter is a common surname for that area?

Look for family names -

It will be much easier to see all the transcribed records to work with, instead of ploughing through the registers of Ancestry etc.

I used to Soundex as well - just in case the surname is spelt a little differently.

Men in Armour for Gloucestershire 1608 on Coaley.net  will show if GUNTER's were in the Area

Thank you, it’s some great advice for me and I’ll have a look later today (fingers crossed I’ll have some luck), either way it will be some interesting reading I’m sure.

I really appreciate your advice, thank you

I've been looking at the other baptisms of GUNTER at Coaley around that time, and Edward GUNTER and his wife seem to have their children baptised with same names, i.e. Jacob, Sarah, etc and even Hester -

---

First on Family Search there's a marriage of Edward GOUNTOR to Hannah GASTRELL and Uley - 23 December 1722 - and checking on Ancestry -

Marriage at Uley

Edward GOUNTOR of this Parish of COWLEY and Hannah GASTRELL of this Parish were marryd 23 December 1722.

Ooh that’s really interesting, the area is good and the year of their marriage is good. I wonder whether Edward and Hannah could be Thomas’ parents?

I'm looking at the Forest of Dean records....

in 1698, Richard & Frances GUNTER - son Joseph was christened
in 1700, Edward, son of Richard was born

It's a jig-saw puzzle, which needs writing down.  Family names are so important even now.

(as couple's had children for 20 to may be up to 30 years).... My Grandmother started having children at 17 - well into her late 40's).

I think Thomas’s children were Anne, Richard, Esther, John and Thomas (maybe there were more).

It’s definitely a jigsaw puzzle (one that I’m not much good at doing).   :(
