Inverurie / Huntly Memorial Inscription ?
« on: Saturday 20 March 21 16:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi Guys,
I wonder if anyone has any Memorial Inscription records or graveyard records for Inverurie / Huntly area?
I am looking for details of an Alexander Allan, Vinter, who died sometime around 1829 -31.  As I have mentioned he was a Vinter in Huntly, I have a newspaper cutting from 1831 from a solicitor, James Brown of Huntly, who were looking for the creditors of an Alexander Allan in order to wind up his estate.  There is no will on Scotland's People and as he did not die Intestate there will be no court record.  I wonder if someone could have a look on the Memorial Inscriptions or graveyard records for this area in order to find more information on him.
I believe Alexander Allan was married to Mary Simpson and both died before statutory registration.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Swally

Are you sure he died then? There is a notice in the Aberdeen Journal of 18-8-1830 where he is described as "Alex. Allan, late vintner in Huntly, now at Bainshole Toll-bar". He had granted a trust disposition for the benefit of his creditors and his trustees are gathering debts owed to him and preparing to pay creditors etc. Are you sure it's not just the business that's defunct and being wound up, rather that Alexander Allan being deceased? "Late vintner" does not mean he is necessarily dead, just no longer a vintner in Huntly.

GR2,
Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure when he died, to be honest. I have been unable to find any further information on Alexander, a lady offered to check Huntly graveyard for a headstone/burial but sadly she was unable to find anything.  I'm not sure where to look now.

Regards,

Swally

Do you know his parents' names or when he was born?

Where does the Inverurie connection you mentioned come into play?

Forguette,

This is what information I have.

Alexander Allan and Mary Simpson had a son, James, who was born around 1811 in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire.

Hi Swally

I can only see one James Allan in Inverurie in 1851 and 1861. He is showing as born c. 1805 in Peterhead. From 1861:

James Allan 56  carter b. Peterhead
Jane Allan 56 b. Udny, Aberdeenshire
John Allan 12
Robert Allan 9
Helen Allan 2
John Gellan 36 Lodger
John Christer 42 Lodger

Address: High Street Inverurie

Jane Aitken/Allan looks to likely be widowed by 1871.

James Allan's death is showing in 1869 in Inverurie. Age indexed as 58. Mother's maiden name Simpson.
