Can someone help with a look up around Maresfield please?

on SFHG I have found the baptism of Henry Jupp on 14th June 1772, Maresfield.  This record says his parents were Henry Jupp and Nancy Jupp, however, I don't seem to be able to find a marriage for this couple or any record of Nancy.

Could someone else look this up for me, please?

Any help is much appreciated.

I have done this already and there is a marriage in Maresfield of a Henry Jupp and an Ann Ridley but not Ann Nancy Ridley yet on the baptism it says Nancy Jupp. So there is no way of corroborating this information.

When was Henry's oldest sibling born? Was it around 1763? That would be a good way to corroborate the information. How was the mother's name listed on his/her baptism?

I have a copy of the SMI and it says Ann Ridley, not Nanny.
That is very strange.

I am not sure about this.
I have found many baptisms in Maresfield with the father of Henry Jupp, but some of them say Nanny as the mother and others say, Nancy, none of them say Ann.

I think you need to keep an open mind.

There are a multitude of alternative names to consider when searching for ancestors. e.g.
Edward/Neddy
Sarah/Sally
Mary/Mally/Maria/Molly
Margaret/Peggy
Elizabeth/Betty
Ann/Hannah/Agnes/Nancy/Nanny

And that's before considering alternative names in Scotland!

Sometimes it depends on the location. Mally for Mary is something I notice in Lancashire as is Peggy for Margaret.  I've just been looking at memorial inscriptions in Lancashire and despite the fact that one particular lady was baptised and buried as Peggy, the MI has her as Margaret.  I know it is the correct person. 

It's possible that the vicar or parish clerk might just have had a hand in deciding what to write in the register.  And it is unlikely that the parents ever checked what was written since it was not usually entered at the time of the service, or maybe the parents could not read.

Worth thinking about when trawling indexes and registers.
