Patrick NOLAN 1835-1874

Patrick NOLAN was the third son of Peter NOLAN and Eliza/Betty/Elizabeth BERNEY, baptised at Allen Parish 3 Mar 1835.

He died at Rathernan on 20 Mar 1874 aged 39. His brother James from Kilmeague was the informant. Probably buried in the family plot at the Old Cemetery of Allen.

His death registration states that he was married, but so far I have been unable to find a marriage for him in the usual sources.

Hoping some fresh eyes can find something.

Have you eliminated the Patrick Nolan, butcher, son of Peter Nolan who married Elizabeth Nolan daughter of Arthur(?) Nolan in Dublin in 1865?

Dublin is not so far from Co Kildare especially if there was a Nolan clan there already.

I started from the premise that he had children in Rathernan and they were named after his parents.

The mother was Margaret Whyte. The baptism of Elizabeth is in the Allen Parish.

Margaret and Patrick must have been married in a Catholic church before 1864, so you won't find the record in the civil records.

Thanks guys. Looks to be the right one Patrick. I had seen the marriage for Patrick and Elizabeth but was not sure as it had the father as a butcher. The father Peter was a farmer.

There is a marriage in the Allen records for Patt NOLAN and Margaret HICKEY from Rathernan on 19 Apr 1863. This would fit with the Hickey kids in 1901 and 1911. She must have been a widow.

When Patrick's brother Peter died in 1915 a Louis Nolan was one of the official mourners mentioned in the obit.

Looks like it is the right ones.

Have found Margaret's first husband was Patrick HICKEY. He died at Rathernan in 1861. They were married in Allen parish in 1856 and had two children, Andrew in 1857 and Joseph in 1860.

Patrick NOLAN and Margaret had six children that I could find.
Elizabeth 1864-??
Peter Thomas 1865-1870
Mary Theresa 1867-1954
Jane 1870-1870
Richard 1871-??
Aloysius/Louis 1873-1946.

Some of these names looked familiar. A Nolan relly had recently sent me info about gravestones they had seen and photographed some years ago. It turns out that Margaret, her son Andrew HICKEY, and NOLANs Mary Theresa and Louis are all buried in this cemetery. Not sure what it is called but it is a couple of kilometres south east of Kilmeague.
