Catherine Snell

I am looking for the birth date of Catherine Snell of Wicklow.I believe her parents were John Snell and Catherine Smyth. I believe Catherine arrived in Geelong Victoria Australia in 1855.
I think she married Jules Leon Baptiste Marion in Geelong,
Any help much appreciated.

Well, as you probably are aware, there were 10 registered births to this couple.

However, there is discrepancy in the age given on various records for Catherine (nee SNELL)

Baptised 1833, at what age we do not know.

Age at death 82 so born 1824

Age on the shipping record 20 years. Domestic Servant.

One of the 10 children born to Catherine and Jules was John Napoleon Marion born in 1852 according to info. on Ancestry. There is a John Napoleon Simpson born to  Charles Jules M(Marion?) and Jane Stewart in 1856 in Belmont. He died in 1937 in Geelong. There is a death of a John Marion in 1937 ,aged 85 with father Jules Marion. Mother unknown.There is a marriage between a Charles Simpson born in France and a Jane Stuart( Stewart?) from Wicklow Ireland in 1855 on 31 May in Geelong.Was this the marriage between Catherine Snell and Jules Marion under assumed names?
I am quite bewildered!!!

I do not see the death of John MARION in 1937. There is a burial record in the name John MARION for that year at Geelong

The author of the tree I have seen on Ancestry has either chosen not to show certificates or other original material as sources or does not hold them at all.

It makes it difficult to credit the work and raises doubts.

You need to contact the tree author or download certification yourself if you hope to move forward.

It will be interesting to hear the results of your certificate purchases.
The birth of the first child, Mary Ann, should give the date of the marriage and birth places of both parties.

There is not much more to offer until then.
