Looking for baptisms in Fedamore 1808-1814
« on: Saturday 27 February 21 01:13 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for the baptisms of two Keating sons baptised between 1808 and 1814 in Fedamore to Jeffrey Keating and Johanna Kirby. I've looked through the register on the NLI site - they're illegible in parts - and wondered if there was any other source for these dates? Perhaps they were transcribed in the past?

Edited to add - I have the baptism of Jeffrey Keating in 1808 and his brother also Jeffrey Keating in 1814. The second Jeffrey was described as the 4th son of Jeffrey Keating and Johanna Kirby on his admission to Kings' Inn in 1836.

John
27 Nov 1814
according to findmypast, but it should actually be December.

You can make a free account on findmypast and search their Catholic records for free.

Findmypast decided to transcribe the Catholic records and ancestry decided to do it jointly and have the records on both sites. They got unemployed people at the time to do the work for them, so the transcriptions aren't that great overall. Some records are only on findmypast and not on ancestry. Your best bet would be to buy a month on rootsireland. I have found many records on rootsireland from Limerick that weren't available on findmypast or ancestry. Rootsireland is a non-profit and get their records from various family history centers in Ireland. They had access to original records which means they tend to have better transcriptions.

Thanks Patrick. John was baptised after the second Jeffrey so he must have been the fifth son. I don't think I'm going to find the two sons in between - unless I get lucky with Rootsireland.

I would think that the son born in 1808 was the 3rd son already. The 3rd son was the son that was named after the father.

Why would they have to be between those years?
Presumably you have the daughters?

Disregard the above. I see from your previous thread that you do have the daughters.
I had also seen the death of Jeffery Keating born about 1817 and thought he might have been the second one but more likely the deceased one is the son of Edmund Keating of Grange Hill.

Heywood, the Jeffrey Keating who died in 1877 at Grange Hill aged 60 was the one baptised 1814 to Jeffrey Keating and Johanna Kirby. He was the one who was an attorney/solicitor who trained at Kings Inn.

This family didn't seem to follow the naming patterns all that well. The first son was baptised Jeffrey but used Jeffrey James in his professional life and was known as James (his grandfather's name) to the family.  Johanna Kirby's father was Patrick so I'd expect the second son to be named after him but I can't find one that fits.

Thanks, Jang.
I saw the marriage of James, son of Edmund in 1867 where a witness was Jeffery Keating  and assumed they would be brothers but of course he is too old  ::)

I think this Jeffrey was his uncle, the son of Edmond Keating and Catherine Moloney.

This family is very confusing :-)
