FTDNA query

Quick question, hopefully easy to answer by someone who knows!  Tested originally with Ancestry, and later tested my now 94 year old Dad there too.  I uploaded myself to Gedmatch, My Heritage & FTDNA. I decided to upload Dad's data to FTDNA, which I did I think on Saturday evening. By Sunday morning his matches had appeared, and earlier in the week his ethnic origins ( or whatever they call it!) also appeared. I had expected that my results be split between maternal & paternal, now Dad was also on the database, but realised that I had to give us a linked relationship, which I did. I have now had a 'rotating circle' (denoting I assume actively doing 'something'!), marked Calculating Family Matching, for, well this is the 3rd day I am sure.  Nothing obvious has changed. Is this length of time normal, does anyone know, from experience of doing the same thing??

PS - Interested in this now partly because I have been doing a Genetic Genealogy course in my spare time, as I retired at New Year, and since I am single, I needed something to tide me over through lockdown on my own here. I was having a go at DNA Painter, and needed matches whose segment co-ordinates I could use.  Ancestry is not very good  for that!! PPS I know I can't use my Dad's match segment co-ordinates on my Chromosome mapping!!

Hi. I had the same issue and contacted FTDNA about it. Net result it was reported as a "bug". I was told it would be at least 14 days before they could respond. I never did hear, but the issue has now disappeared. Oddly, a distant genetic cousin had the same issue. The common feature seems to be that we have all had our fathers tested / uploaded their DNA data and then the issue has arisen.

It's not a problem now so I'm not chasing it

Yes, mine has resolved, but it took the best part of a week, which I was surprised by!

Interestingly, it marked me as a match on his paternal side only, not maternal, or both, even though, obviously, (as his daughter!) I also match on his mothers side. I have lots of matches on Ancestry, to his mothers 2 lines, though there are few ( as far as I know, at a reasonable cM'age), on FTDNA.

Actually on looking at it again, my Dad's matches (>7,000), are currently paternal - 3,  maternal - zero! and it appears to be re-calculating as we speak!!  Using my Dad's match list, and using the one known maternal match, and the ICW tool, there are actually quite a few sizable matches on the maternal side, as the first one I looked at, matched my Dad at >60 cM, excluding the <7 cM segments.

There are obviously aspects to this that I do not understand, will need to dig deeper!!!
