Richard Hill / Samuel Watson/Willis

Following my last post, please note I have been advised Richard Hill might have been transported under the name Samuel Watson. Does anyone have any information about him? I'd be hugely grateful. Thanks, Tom

I looked at oldbaileyonline for Samuel Watson, 1845 and there is a report on his crime. It also mentions his alias, Samuel Willis. Worth looking at.

TomOgier, you should give us some more (hard) data first because Samuel Watson is most likely a red herring.

With the minor amount of info that was supplied (incl https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=462414.msg7115244), it appears that you are looking for a Richard HILL
who might have been born abt 1829/30 and who might have gone to trial abt 1846 (resulting in “exile” transportation).

The best (only?) fit is a 17Y old Richard Hill who went to trial for larceny in Middlesex (Clerkenwell) on 6 Jul 1847. However this guy seems to have been acquitted, so could you please supply some more background information for your guy to facilitate and narrow down this search?
e.g. (but not limited to)
- When/where was he born
- Was Richard Hill, the alias or his real name.
- Was Richard HILL tried and convicted under the name Samuel WATSON?
- And especially: What is the link to his Old Bailey trial? If you can’t give it, why not and/or where did you get your information from in the first place …

Have you had a look at Thomas DONOVAN whose “proper name” was Richard HILL.
He was convicted in Middlesex on 17 Dec 1844 and was transported on the Marion. He arrived in Tasmania on 16 Sep 1845.
