"It is also useful on census images just click and change from record images to transcription and you can see what the think the image says whilst showing the image"

Sorry, but I don't understand this either. I have always been able to swap fairly easily between image and transcript, but I cannot now find a way to do it, apart from the back arrow. I use Windows10 and Firefox.

Just above the film strip there are 5 buttons to click Record pages : Related materials : Linked transcripts : I and C see example on-
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01qcr/

If you click on the linked transcripts it shows individual transcripts of the names, to compare on the same screen as the image, which save stuggling to make out dubious names

The Related Materials button can also give addition information to build a picture of the area covered etc.
In other words the buttons allow the researcher to view addition resources without leaving the main census image.
Cheers
Guy

Thanks, Guy. I can see that those related materials could be useful, or at least interesting.

whilst I agree Guy that in some instances the new system is useful it would still be useful to be able to turn it off especially on a laptop because with it on you lose at least 4inches or 10cms of screen.
I am always (well almost!) happy to try new ideas but it seems obvious from posts that just a simple on off button would make everyone happy ;D

I contacted FindMyPast asking how many members took part in the recent testing for the new format and asking about an option button, the following is the reply I have just received:

"Whilst I am not able to confirm the numbers of members who tested this feature for us we have a pool of customers we regularly test features with, who we select based on surveys they fill in for us with information about their subscription length, level of experience, computer type.
I understand the option to toggle the display would be useful and this has been forwarded along for consideration"

I do hope it is been considered and common sense prevails.

Neither have I.

I got the standard e mail reply today.
I also got a “How did we do” request....so I told them. I was polite but pointed out that I wasn’t happy with the ‘like or lump it’,  until they deign to have another tinker.
