I  have been on their test panel for a few months. Although I've been asked a number of  times if i am available on certain dates and times and been put on their short list I've never been used.
I have although emailed the product designer for FindMyPast and told him about peoples reaction to these "film strips"and suggestion of including a toggle on/off button.

Just received this reply from FindMyPast

Thank you for getting in touch in regards to our new image viewer.

Original images are a key part of family history. They are detail rich, and we add many more to Findmypast every week. We’ve made these changes to help you discover useful detail around the image you’re exploring – like the next page of a service record or a passenger record, which might have more information about who else was in the regiment or on the same journey. You might uncover who lived next door to your ancestors when exploring census records. We want to make this extra, rich detail more discoverable to all users to help them build a brighter picture of their ancestors’ stories.

The option to turn off the page navigation tool wasn’t considered critical by members in the testing we did for the first release.

Since launch, we’ve learned that customers such as yourself would very much like the option to tailor the features to fit, which is understandable. We will continue to monitor its usage and any feedback we receive with a view of implementing any changes in the future.

In the meantime, your feedback and comments have also been passed on.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to get back in touch.
Kind regards,

The usual bog standard reply that doesn't really suggest that any changes will be made anytime soon.  Probably depends on how many people complain/make suggestions before they decide to make any alterations, if any at all.

Only time will tell, but how much time, who knows  ::)

Kind regards,

At least they are listening. I suspect they are hoping we’ll all just lump it and go away.

I for one will email them again in a week or two. I’ve had trouble turning off the transcripts , something else that obscures the original. We are always being told to look at the original document where possible . With all their new gadgetry we might just as well not bother...you can’t see half of it anyway. ::)

All we want is the ability to turn off the new layers. We don't want them  to withdraw what they see as an improvement.  Surely it's a fairly straightforward programming routine.

Easiest way is to follow cuffie's suggestion in post 29 or so.

I for one love the new format
