Ladners in Horsham around 1900
« on: Saturday 30 January 21 01:10 GMT (UK) »
We have inherited a beautiful photo album from the Ladner family.  We believe it belonged to Arthur Ladner who lived in Horsham about 1900-1930.  The photos do not have any writing on them, so identification is almost impossible.

Arthur worked at Horsham on the railways and for a short time worked at North Melbourne.  His mother used to operate the gates at Horsham.  They both lived in the Horsham gate house.

Normal Ladner died 7/10/1910 in Charteris Towers Queensland.

Also there is a thank you death card for William Benson who died 4/6/1897 aged 29 years.

Would anyone have any idea who these people were please?

The only William BENSON I can see who died in 1897 in Victoria was 25 years old according to the Vic BDM index, with parents' names George BENSON and Mary Ann CHAMPNES. Can't see a birth for him in Victoria.

Sorry I got the spelling wrong.  It is Benison not Benson.

Can you further explain what is a "thank you death card?"

I assumed it was a thank you for your sympathy type of card that is sent out after funerals.  :-\

I would agree Maddy,
Horsham and Dimboola are not far apart and perhaps the 2 families, LADNER and BENNISON were friends or acquaintances.
