Mystery man - ALBERT BAUM b. Birmingham circa 1860
« on: Thursday 28 January 21 16:53 GMT (UK) »
This man is a mystery to me!  There isn't an Albert Baum's birth registered in the GRO/Free BMD, Familysearch Warwickshire records online and even the registrar's office!   He married at the age of 20 in 1880 was in parish of St. Mark, Leicester and he lived in that area all of his life.  Father's name was Joseph (deceased on marriage certificate).  He appears on the 1881 to 1911 censuses as a married man stating he is born in Birmingham.   He isn't in any census's prior to 1881 but in 1871 there is a 10 year old pauper named Albert in the Leicester Workhouse but he's born in Thurmaston, Leicester.  Registrations seems to be in Barrow upon Soar - Mountsorrel, Leicestershire and absolutely nothing in Birmingham!

I have tried looking for other Joseph Baum's family's and researched their trees back to the 1700's but there's no sign of even the name ALBERT in any of the naming patterns.  So I'm wondering whether someone out there can help me look somewhere else?!   It's like he was dropped in by aliens!

What was father Joseph's occupation on the marriage cert?  And do the witnesses give any clues - who were they?

Father Joseph Baum (Deceased) occ Labourer

Witnesses were Walter Castle and Jane Hastings - Bride was Jemima Hastings.  Bride, Groom & witnesses all signed.

I often wonder about fathers who are deceased on marriages, sometimes they are fictitious
