Margaret Crook born around 1803
« on: Sunday 10 January 21 13:08 GMT (UK) »
I have Margaret Crook on several later censuses, and also her marriage which was May 1824 at the church St Michael's on the Wyre, but I cannot find a birth. It says on the certificate she was born in Inskip, can anyone help please

Thank you

Yes I know she married Thomas Holmes. I was just trying to show that other Crooks married Wyre about the same time.
They were the children of John/Sarah.

Trish :)

Familysearch has Inskip christenings 1800-1806 with Parents JOHN/SARAH.
No Margaret though.

Earlier baptisms at St. Michael's on Wyre on Lancashire Online Parish Clerks:
Peggy 1788, William 1791, Ellen 1793, father of all was John, abode Inskip. That Peggy was too early for a Margaret born 1803.
Possible marriage at St. Michael's 1787 John Crook & Sarah Miller, by licence.
Baptism Thomas 1789, father James, abode Inskip.

Some of the Inskip Crooks were Non-Conformist. Perhaps Margaret 1803 was one of them. I suspected they may not have been C. of E. as I noticed some married by licence.
Lancashire Archives has 2 Quarter Session Petitions for licences for Non-Conformist place(s) of worship at Inskip.
1816 Inskip with Sowerby. Request by Thomas Crook of Inskip that his house be registered as a Non-Conformist place of worship. QSP/2698/20
26th October 1817 Inskip with Sowerby. Request that the building belonging to John Crook & other trustees be registered as a Non-Conformist place of worship. QSP2725/90

1818 Richard Crook and James Catterall of Sowerby, farmers, + 2 other men were named in an assault case. A Crook and a Catterall had a liaison which resulted in another Quarter Session Petition the next year for maintenance of a child. In fact the Inskip Crooks were named in 5 petitions for maintenance of illegitimate children 1819, 1821, 1822, 1826, 1828.
1834 John Crook of Inskip, yeoman was a witness in a court case.
I couldn't see any wills for Inskip Crooks.

Bapt were;
Mary 1800
Alice 1801
James 1803
Ann 1806

These are from Crossmoor Baptist Chapel, Inskip

Earlier baptisms at St. Michael's on Wyre on Lancashire Online Parish Clerks:
Peggy 1788, William 1791, Ellen 1793, father of all was John, abode Inskip.

Baptism Thomas 1789, father James, abode Inskip.

Peggy (Margaret) and Thomas were also in Crossmoor Baptist Chapel, Inskip.
Plus 2 earlier children of John & Sarah; 1781 William, 1786 John.
If all those children from William 1781 to Ann 1806 belonged to the same John & Sarah, then the marriage of John Crook & Sarah Miller 1787 was too early. Maybe there were 2 couples called John & Sarah Crook in Inskip. There's a gap in births to John & Sarah in 1790's until Mary 1800. Perhaps they moved and Margaret was born elsewhere, or maybe John volunteered or was called up for the French wars.
I'm not sure if there was 1 Thomas or 2 born in 1789. His birthday in Crossmoor register is 1st Dec. and his parents were John & Sarah. Birthday of Thomas in St. Michael's register is 1st Nov. and his father was James.
Other couples with children in Crossmoor baptism register were Thomas & Ellen, William & Alice, James & Nancy, Thomas & Elizabeth, James & Ann.
Baptisms in Crossmoor register have a note beside them saying they were registered in 1837.
Monumental inscriptions for Crossmoor graveyard from 1817 are in Lancashire Archives.
