Emerson in Bethnal Green/Shoreditch
« on: Saturday 27 August 05 13:14 BST (UK) »
I have a very elusive Gt Grandmother. Her name  was Elizabeth supposedly born about 1852 in Shoreditch. I know this because she married my Gt Grandad in 1875, her father was Robert, a Cab Proprietor. He supposedly was born in 1823 in Marylebone. elizabeth appears in every census after 1871but not before and neither does her father. does anybody have any bright ideas.

I have a Thomas Emerson born c1799 Stratford he married an Elizabeth and one their children name Eliza born c1842 married Robert James. Eliza name was spelt Emmerson but father spelt Emerson, his parents spelt Emmerson! !

I have found that some of my ancestors are quite confused about their birth place and also sometimes (in fact quite often) the names are mis-interpreted.

Not sure if this any help to you.
