Robert Gibson, Belfast to Australia
« on: Monday 21 December 20 00:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

I’m looking for someone that I hope is still alive. His name is Robert James Gibson. Born 1937 in Belfast to Robert and Josephine nee Wilson . His grandparents were William and Hester (Hessie) Nee Kirkpatrick. He immigrated to Australia in the 60s I think, and may have grown up near shank hill.

It’s all of a bit of a sad story I’m afraid. My grandad Thomas Gibson was his uncle. Thomas was disowned by the family as he changed religions. He later met my grandmother in Dublin, and moved to Wimbledon. He died in 1975 when my mum was only 16 so we know virtually nothing about the family.

I’ve been trying to piece together information on what happened and I think Robert could shed some light on things as my mother remembers him visiting my grandad when she was very young just before he went to Australia (this is where I got the 60s from).

All I know is that he lives in Melbourne and would be in his 80s, his wife is Helen.

I’m on ancestry but as the census aren’t out get I can’t find anything on him in Australia.

Any help would be wonderful.

You will have to remove his name as we cannot discuss possibly living people.  You can see a copy of his full immigration record here:

https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/ViewImage.aspx?B=7326346

They were living in Allen's Road, Montmorency in 1980 (Eltham, Diamond Valley, Victoria, Australia if you are using the electoral rolls on Ancestry).

His death notice says he’s the husband of BERTE (deceased).

Probate notice says he was an accountant.

Difficult to find him as his name is not unusual.  For example, there are three persons of the same name buried/cremated at a large crematorium/cemetery in the Melbourne metropolitan area.
https://smct.org.au/deceased-search
Robert James Gibson   Springvale Botanical Cemetery   Cremated   19 November 1974; no DoB recorded
Robert James Gibson   Springvale Botanical Cemetery   Cremated   30 November 1989 - DoB 1907 so not your man
Robert James Gibson   Springvale Botanical Cemetery   Cremated   25 September 1991 - no DoB recorded
And another at the Melbourne Crematorium but his birth date is 1928 so not your man.

I don't have access but someone else may be able to look up the 1991 death notice, if there is one, but it still may not be your man.
