The links open on map 1.

You need to click through to maps 6 and 7. It is on both of those. It is on the very right-hand edge of map 7.

Thanks to JenB, finally found it on a 1954 OS map at NLS. I’ve zoomed right in so that you can’t miss it.

Sorry to reopen such an old thread but does anyone know the history of Woodger Terrace?

I've been told it was named after a relative of mine but haven't been able to find anything to prove or disprove that.

Thanks,

It might be easier for us to search for a connection if you give just a few more details of your relative, please.

Any connection to Woodger, fish curer?

Hi John,

I've had the name John Edward Woodger mentioned but I don't think it will be him as I think he ended up in the workhouse.

Yes the fish curer, John Woodger was a cousin (four times removed). I'm not sure if the street was named after him, he would be the obvious one but quite a few of his relatives were also quite successful and have a connection to that area so could be any of them.

It's an unusual surname so I'm guessing there must be a connection but I just don't know to which one of them.

Not much help really, sorry.

Monkwearmouth local history group no longer exists but it handed its records to the Sunderland Antiquarian Society.  Have you contacted them?

Hi Chempat,

Yes I've sent them a message as well, thanks for the suggestion.
