My friend was born in India and came to England in 1950,s and would love to find some family members, She has contacted the match but cannot work out how they are related.
any help would be really appreciated, {The match does not have a family tree}

That is a high cM and gives a 97% probability of a 1C match or 3% at 1/2 1C or 1C1R.

Expanding sideways at Great Grandparent level and building each family member’s branch to as near to previous generation level will help quite a lot.

Meanwhile if you can ID the DNA match by name then you can build a probable tree for them.

I have a 364 cM DNA Match and built a tree for them (see my thread on this) but as yet I still have not found a link to my tree.

The bigger the tree your friend has the better chance of finding a link.

But as I have often said if the DNA match has a user name like SkyDiverInToABucket you have minimal chance of finding a pathway, but using Shared Matches may help.

It could be a first cousin, a  great niece/nephew or a double relationship.

Many thanks for the information, It is quite difficult to build a tree as the lady im trying to help really wanted to find her mother in India {possibly not living now} as she has no family members to ask and very little information.
She never knew her father and only vague memories of her mother.
thankyou for your time and help.

A double relationship is if you are related through more than one line.  I had a puzzle with a third cousin who I knew was related through my paternal grandfather's line  as a third cousin. His DNA was showing as much closer. I traced back and found that he was related through my paternal grandmother's line as well.  I have quite a few of these  in my father's line, as many were in the same small area since mid-1700s.

It maybe that it becomes a waiting game hoping that a sibling has a DNA test in which case a high cM match of c2600cM could be indicative of a close sibling relation.

Have you looked at her shared matches to your friends highest match maybe some of them will have trees and you can see if there are any names coming up .

It's also worth contacting the people with no trees and ask if they have any connections to India and one or two known surnames.
