Is this a possibility? Both Ancestry and FindmyPast have three baptisms in Llanycil parish, Merionethshire for Edward the son of Evan Pool and Jane his wife of Is Mynydd. The dates are 9 Feb 1775, 19 Apr 1778, 3 Jul 1779.

In the same parish there are burials for Edward, son of Evan Pool & Jane, on 30 Apr 1778 and 23 May 1775.

Considering the fact I can't actually find any 'Powell' baptisms is there a possibility that he wasn't born in Wales at all (despite the information given on the 1851 Census)?

Could Edward Powell be the son of Powell Edward as patronymics were still in use in Wales up to the earlypart of the 19th century.

There may not be any Edward Powell baptisms in Merionethshire there are several of the same date in Montgomeryshire and both counties have a very long joint border so I would say that it could easily be a case of him being born near the border of one county and brought up in the other.    Or he was 80 years old by the 1851 census it could just be forgetfulness.
