Finding Burial Record

Hi

Just a thought, check the 1939 register for any known family members, especially his wife.

If found that should give the residence and possibly the Parish (for church records)

Thanks for your response Chris.    I have all the information around this, but I couldnt find confirmation of his burial, or the plot he is in. Im hoping he is in the same plat as my grandmother, but cant get the confirmation. Thanks again

Is it possible he was cremated? Those records are more difficult to find in my experience.

Hi.. Thanks for your response. I did think that, and, as you say, Cremation records are very difficult to locate. However, it now appears that he was buried, and in the cemetery that I thought , so just need to find the plot now. Thanks again

There is also a notice in the Sunderland Daily Echo and Shipping Gazette 10 Aug 1939:

" Forrest - At the Municipal Hospital, on August 6, aged 48 years James Henry (better known as Abe), the beloved husband of Mary Ann Forrest. Internment at Sunderland Cemetery on Friday; service at home 1.15. Friends kindly invited. Deeply mourned."

As others have said, an account with Family Search is free and its an amazingly useful resource.

You need to be signed in to search or view any records, the link JenB gave you is for the image of the actual burial register that gives the grave number

This link, again on Family Search so you need to be signed in to see the image, is for the grave register and shows that the grave wasn't purchased, and lists 3 people in that grave - to me they appear to be unrelated which is what I'd expect in a grave where the rights to burial were not purchased.

Thank you so much for that. I now have the exact location of his grave, so tomorrow I will be searching for it, as the cemetery is literally over the road from where I live!!   Thanks again, your help is very appreciated.

Thank you Boo. I have created an account with Family Search, and have been able to see the burial record as per the link. Your information is quite eye opening, I didnt know that. However it dos seem to have been a fairly common practice year ago.  Thanks again

I think you will find it 'very' useful, it does take some time to find your way around FS but, feel free to ask questions about how to search and find things.
Bear in mind that, good though the subscription sites are, there is NO 'one size fits all' site that will give you the answers you are looking for. Reading posts and replies in these boards has helped me enormously over the years. Learning where and how to search is half the battle :-)
