Can you link your DNA test to more than 1 Tree?
« on: Saturday 28 November 20 17:47 GMT (UK) »

I’m not sure whether this is possible or not, - but thought that someone on here might know?

At present my DNA test is linked to my main Tree on there. I’ve also done a rehash Tree for my main paternal DNA match. Is it possible to also link my test to this Tree, to see which matches might turn up on Thrulines?

Romilly.

No I don't think you can link to more than one at once.  However, you can switch about so you can move it to the other tree for a while to see if you get any matches.  I have done this and its easy to do.  You won't get matches on your main tree whilst you do this.

That is worth knowing, thank you Pheno. I had the same question as Romilly but I hadn't thought about swapping over for a while.

Especially looking for - Sealey, Rogers, Cannings, Box, Sheppard in Wiltshire; Virgin, Slade, Abbott, Saint, Harper, Silverthorn in Somerset; and Virgin, Tarr, Beer in Devon

And most especially the origins of William Cannings,  a Baptist, born abt 1791 in Broughton Gifford, Wiltshire

Why not join the trees into one new tree and link to that tree.

You do not have to make any additions to this new tree, it is just so that hints and Thrulines are in one place.

I have a number of separate trees, but Ancestry doesn't have the facility to join them together. I have a version of Family Tree Maker which used to sync with the online trees, but no longer.
I ended up exporting them all from Ancestry as gedcom files and patching them together in FTM before copying it back as a new combined tree. Problem is the media files don't get transferred, but the structure should catch any matches.

I imagine the quality of the matches are only as good as the family trees that are on the site.

I sent off my test 2 weeks ago (to Dublin), but it's still not shown as being received. I read somewhere that tests are collected before being shipped on to America in a batch. Hope they haven't lost it.

A kind person pointed out to me that if you click on the little symbol by your DNA matches name, you have the option of adding them to your Tree.

And so I’ve added the pertinent people to my main Tree, and will wait to see if anything pops up on Thrulines!

This is virtually what I’ve done Biggles, - I didn’t know how to do it before.

Thanks, Romilly.

I took lmy mums dna off main tree and linked  to a private hypothesis tree for a while but didnt get thru lines
When I switched back it took a few days for old thru lines to come back.
Also.I know some matches have spelt ancestors name different from myself so.I sometimes change spellings on my tree to see if more thru.lines appear .you have to leave it for several days
