Children of rape
« on: Sunday 08 November 20 16:31 GMT (UK) »
Having helped several adoptees or descendants of adoptees work out the lineage using DNA clues
It occurs to me that there may be people or children / grandchildren  of someone conceived thru rape

I spoke to someone today who said she.d prepared herself for that possibility
What.an amazing attitude ...she said she always felt special because she was chosen so didnt mind what turned up about her birth father

I considered it for my own grandmother whose birth father was 12 years older than her 18 year old mother

Were rapists named in newspapers in all generations ....would it be possible for this to be uncovered
Thru dna and news reports of whatever era

 Im not just wondering idly

A distant relative once told me that her father had been jailed for rape

Must have been  in the 1970s or 80s

If someone came up as a match in those circumstances how would you deal with it .

Most cases of births outside marriage first thought  for me is usually an affair

Does anyone have any examples of dna surprises or of news reports of rape cases that have potentially matchec relatives  ?

Dark topic!
Prostitution is another realistic but unpalatable alternative. A much larger percentage of women back in the day sold themselves as their only means to support themselves.

I'm sticking to my guns in that my dear old granny was just warm hearted.

Many years ago I was contacted by a woman was the result of a rape. The story appeared in local newspaper reporting the trial but the truth was perhaps a little different. I was able to give her contact details for someone who could fill in much of the story and left it up to her to follow it up but she never contacted the person so maybe didn't want to learn more.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
