Very interesting thread. I haven't had to do much research in Scotland, however I do like trawling through newspapers. There is this advertisement from 1857:
"DESIRABLE PROPERTY AT MARYHILL
FOR SALE BY PRIVATE BARGAIN,
THAT TENEMENT of Three Stories, [sic] with large Green at the back thereof, belonging to Mrs. Halling. The Ground Flat has been occupied as a Grocery and Provision Shop for the last 16 years, and the present tenant commands a first-class business; the other Two Flats are Let as Dwelling Houses. Rental £56 or thereby, but the Rents might be considerably raised, as they never have been advanced since the Property was built.
Apply to Mrs. Halling, residing on the Property, or to Mr. McLachlan, 27 Ronald Street, Glasgow.
Maryhill, 4th Feb., 1857"
