Family history research goals to complete in the next four weeks

we're not actually in lockdown but I've been living close to as if we were for months now.  I never managed to achieve much the way proper people did the last time so probably  a waste of time for me to set myself any goals.  Will just drag me down when I don't come even close.

I had a very different lockdown to most people last time. I travelled further and met more new people than in normal times, all of them health workers and volunteers. A big chunk of the first lockdown coincided with almost daily appointments at a hospital a long way from home, which took up a significant portion of each day. When at home I sat in the garden and went out for my permitted exercise. My big achievement was staying well.
I expect to be indoors at home for most of the next 4 months. I would do that even if my area wasn't tier 3. If weather and I are both OK at the same time there is gardening I may be able to do this month.
My bank balance is healthy as there have been few opportunities to spend money. I might send for some certificates.

Not really lockdown related, but I finally opted for an Ancestry DNA test when it was on sale in mid October, so for the next few weeks I will be doing everything I can to get my tree organised ready for the results when I get them.

I've already watched a collection of videos about thrulines etc in the past week, so I think I have a vague idea of how that works. Of course once I actually get some results and hopefully some matches, thrulines etc, I may find I was wrong about that.

Despite being a little cynical about DNA in the past, I must admit to be a little excited at what I might find.

I may order some Suffolk FHS CD's during this next lockdown as they have released so many now, and I commend them for doing a great job. The Blackbourne deanery is quite well covered now back to 1650. It will help a lot with my Suffolk research seeing as a much needed trip to the Lowestoft record office is still to be a thing of the future, due to Covid.

We have been in Lockdown since March so November will be a breeze.

Already planned for it by booking home deliveries of shopping as far into November as I can.

Family History research has been a daily activity for six months resulting in 41 distant Cousins being found on my tree and 51 on my Wife’s.  So I will continue to chisel away at the DNA matches over the next few weeks.  One thing I do want to do is to learn more about DNA.

You may be surprised, I found one half-brother I knew nothing about and was put in contact with a half-sister I knew very little about, plus information about Canadian relatives hidden by privacy laws.

Be prepared for a wait though as matches sometimes take a while to contact you or respond to messages.

DNA is exciting! And I think it enhances family history research.

Revised goals.

DNA match mapping now on hold.

Main activity is to go through my Name List line by line.

Checking that adjacent names are not duplicate, checking spelling, and adding places of birth (or simply County).

Adding approximate birth dates etc.

The aim is to have as clean a Family Tree as I can so that I can have a good quality Gedcom that I can use in my software and import it into FindMyPast.

When I have done mine it is the same task for my Wife’s Family Tree which is separate from mine (second marriage for each of us, so no children between us).
